Turn around go back down go back the way you came
Can’t you see the flash of fire ten times brighter than the day
And behold the mighty city broken in the dust again
Oh God the pride of man, broken in the dust again
Turn around go back down go back the way you came
Babylon is laid to waste Egypt’s buried in her shame
Their mighty men are beaten down the kings are fallen in the ways
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again
Turn around go back down go back the way you came
Terror is on everyside though the leaders are dismayed
Those who put their faith in fire in fire their faith shall be repaid
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again
Turn around go back down go back the way you came
Shout a warning to the nations that the sword of god is raised
On Babylon that mighty city rich in treasure wide in fame
It shall cause thy towers to fall and make it be a pyre of flame
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again
Thou that dwell on many water rich in treasure wide in fame
Bow unto a god of gold thy pride of might shall be thy shame
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again
And only God can lead the people back into the faith again
Thy holy mountain be restored thy mercy on thy people Lord
PRIDE OF MAN written by Hamilton Camp
Turn around go back down
Back the way you came
Can't you see that flash of fire
10 times brighter than the day
And behold a mighty city
Broken in the dust again
Oh God, pride of man
Broken in the dust again
Turn around go back down
Back the way you came
Babylon is laid to waste
Egypt's buried in her shame
Their mighty men are all beaten down
Their kings are all fallin' in the ways
Oh God, pride of man
Broken in the dust again
Turn around go back down
Back the way you came
Terror is on ever sign
Though our leaders are dismayed
All those who place their faith in fire
In fire their fate shall be repaid
Oh God, pride of man
Broken in the dust again
Turn around go back down
Back the way you came
And shout a warning to the nation
That the sword of God is raised
Yes, Babylon backed by it's city
Rich in treasure wide in fame
Oh God, pride of man
Broken in the dust again
And it shall cause your tower to fall
Make of you a pyre of flame
Oh, you who dwell on many waters
Rich in treasure wide in fame
You bow unto your, your god of gold
Your pride of might shall be a shame
For only God can lead his people
Back unto the earth again
Oh God, pride of man
Broken in the dust again
The holy mountain be restored
Have mercy on the people
The people
Lord

Quicksilver was "my" band. This powerful anthem is as prophetic today as it was back in the days of summer, flowers and love. One of San Francisco's finest Acid Rock bands...
This was written by Hamilton Camp, a lot of the San Francisco bands brought their folk music influences and electronified it with great results. Codine also preformed by QMS was written by Buffy Saint-Marie, a great folk singer and one of the better guitarists in the folk scene, she's still going strong, a Native American.
I just heard Camp's and Lightfoot's version... odd, they seem to rush it and lose the passion,. This is brilliantly paced and arranged... bg vocals and echo-y production give it a greater, bitter majesty.
The first bay area band I saw live and they were stunning to me, perhaps you will be feel some of what I felt on that Saturday night at the Fillmore West..
People who can sing, people who can play. And what a powerful piece to as the first track of your first Lp, What a last line! 'That holy mountain be restored.......
Brings back so many memories... just great. This is a song my husband had introduced me to in the early 70's. He has been gone many years and it still gives me chills. Thanks so much for posting this.
This is greatness, period! Great musicians, passionate and serious about their original material. They will never get old, and this tune in particular. My great-grandchildren will hear this!
