Scott had to have his soul mutilated in order to feel enough pain, agony, sorrow and fear to produce this masterpiece. He's suffered enormous to bring the agony to us. Much respect, Scott.
I often listen to this album while walking to work at midnight. I honestly lose myself to this track every time. The riff starting at 2:06 is just so fucking beautiful.
During my rough times in life , this music healed my energies, and hepled me embrace and then surpass the dreadfull, gray negativity of those times... Back then people thought i was listening to it to be even more depressed , but they did not understand that in this music i found compassion most of them never gave me or understood... Amazing music it is...
It has to be acknowledged that old black metal albums were recorded lo-fi because the artists/labels had tiny budgets to work with. Lo-fidelity is a great artistic technique when used correctly, and black metal just wouldn't be the same without it, but it's all too easy to hold it up as some sort of mythical component of black metal when really it was used out of necessity. We should just try to avoid doing that I think.
