You can hear the roots of this in his 80's stuff, what a great direction for him to go, gothic industrial seems to suit for a label if one needs one for it. I saw Gary Numan live last year, in a small local music venue. The building is old, with original wooden floors that vibrate under you feet. You can FEEL the bass. This stuff is HARD live...and you can feel it to the core of your bones. Incredible. One of the better small venue shows I have ever been to.
I didn't know much about Gary Numan, then I discovered him two days ago. Now I'm in total Gary Numan psychosis ;) I have been listening for all the songs I have missed out on nonstop while working, ordered Splinter yesterday. Totally in love, especially with his newer songs!
A lot of the older folk, like me, remember when he started, he was so original it was amazing, but, though some of us older ones still like the old stuff, and like me, think his music has evolved for the better, you will always get a few (I die You) die hard fans who can't catch up to who he is now, I think he's better now than he was in 79 and the 80's, he's like Bowie, he innovates, his true fans are still true fans, but he has had a couple of generations of new true fans following too, can't be doing too bad there me thinks
Gary has my utmost respect for everything he's done, at the age of 56 he's still kicking ass more than a lot of other people out there how can you not like a song like this no matter how old you are, i'm 22 this is as up to date as it can be in my opinion..
Most who even know his name, only think of "Cars"... He is so much more than that. A pioneer on many levels. Highly underrated. It's a crime. My opinion.
