Great song, I was surprised to find out this was a cover version of the Cascades song because Dan really made it sound his own and did a great job with this version, this is a perfect example of how a cover version should be.
my three personal favorite six-string strummin' singer-songwriters: the hall of famers james taylor and jackson browne, and then the criminally underrated dan fogelberg. may his soul rest in peace.
p.s. try saying "six string strumming singer songwriters" 5 times fast...
To say he was ridiculously talented is perhaps one the greatest understatements of all time. Timeless music, and a man who so richly deserves to be in the R&R Hall of Fame!
The thing I loved about Dan besides his great music was he wrote a song to honor his father Lawrence who was band director at a High School, stage and marching bands, where I also started playing music, as did many get their music starts. Sorry Dan is gone, he would have written lots more, but I know he's somewhere with his father playing some music. BTW his father was also a world class swimmer, getting 2nd to Johnny Weismuller (Tarzan Fame) at the 1928 Olympics. He joked he may have been Tarzan if he won, truly a great family.
It was 1987. I was playing piano at Vanessie's of Santa Fe. I took a break and went to the bar. A gentleman complimented me on my rendition of a song by John Denver that I played. I thanked him and said............"My name is Allen Quintana, and I play piano occasionally here at Vanessie's." He replied, " It's Nice to meet you and you're a great pianist. My name is Dan Fogelberg". ........ My jaw dropped and I damn near fainted. For the next few minutes we talked but I was too starstruck, and I can't remember what else we talked about!. Thanks Dan and I miss your music. I've learned to play more of his beautiful compositions,.........I hope I am doing them justice.
